Jamie Redknapp praises Roberto Firmino for his Liverpool display at Old Trafford

Former Liverpool midfielder, Jamie Redknapp, said Roberto Firmino being in form can make all the difference for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Firmino was on target twice last night as the Reds beat Manchester United at Old Trafford 4-2. The Brazilian was preferred to Sadio Mane in attack and repaid Klopp’s faith with two clinical finishes.

But aside from just those goals, Redknapp – who was speaking on Sky Sports – believes an in-form Firmino is vital to Liverpool and they way play as a team.

“It’s a really good finish (the second Firmino goal). He didn’t look like a man who’d been out form to be honest,” Redknapp said.

“But I think you could see the confidence start to ooze out of him, Firmino. When he plays like this he’s such an important player for Liverpool. He sets the press, he sets the tempo, he just needs to add those goals.”

Firmino has yet to hit double figures this season for Liverpool. However, he’ll be hoping this two goal boost and three Premier League games to come can take him over that mark. And for the Reds, that could be vital if he does.

Klopp’s men remain in with a chance of the top four, albeit it could end up being out of their hands.

A fully fit and in-form Roberto Firmino is an asset to anyone and he was brilliant last night. As Redknapp says, he sets the tone for the whole team when he is on it.

Liverpool fully deserved their win last night. Firmino also deserved his goals and may have even had more. Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with what he saw from his man.
