Jamie Redknapp has compared the performances of midfielders John McGinn and Tanguy Ndombele during Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.
As per the Daily Mail, Redknapp has said that it was McGinn who looked the better player as he ran the show in central midfield at times, despite both men hitting the back of the net.
He said: “A special mention has to go to Aston Villa’s John McGinn, or ‘McGinniesta’ as some call him. No disrespect to Tottenham’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele, who scored a wonderful goal, but McGinn looked like the £55million midfielder on the pitch at times.
“The guy cost £2.75m when he joined from Hibernian in 2018 but he ran the midfield and opened the scoring. It was outstanding.”
TBR’s View – McGinn can mix it at the highest level
There will be plenty of intrigue over how Jack Grealish will get on back in the top flight, but McGinn has all the qualities to shine in the Premier League.
McGinn showcased his running power and composure with his goal on his big time bow and did not look out of place in esteemed company, such as Ndombele – who Spotrac claim earns £200,000-a-week at Tottenham.
Villa’s season won’t rest on results away from home against the top sides, and McGinn will fancy himself to get the better of adversaries further down the division if Saturday’s match is anything to go by.
