Jamie Redknapp has told 90min that Archie Gray is his Premier League player to watch this season as he backed the Leeds United teenager to be a future England star.

Gray is yet to make his first-team debut at Elland Road. However, he is a player many know a lot about after he regularly made the bench last season.

His involvement highlighted just how badly Leeds’ squad had been decimated by injuries. Having said that, Marcelo Bielsa would only ever pick players if he felt he could trust them to come on if needed.

And based on Gray’s performances for the under-23s, he certainly has a very bright future ahead.

Jesse Marsch has also had Gray in his plans. And he gave him plenty of minutes in pre-season. It would be absolutely no surprise if the 16-year-old did make a competitive debut before the end of the campaign.

And one person who cannot wait to see Gray get his chance is Redknapp. The pundit was asked to name one player to watch this coming season. And, perhaps surprisingly, the name he opted for was the Leeds starlet.

“There’s a player, I don’t know if he’s ready yet, but he’s the best young midfield player I’ve seen in years, and I’ve watched him closely is Archie Gray. He’ll be 17 I think this year. Archie Gray is going to be a future England star,” he told 90min.

It is extremely high praise. But he is definitely one player the Leeds United fans are extremely excited about.

Obviously, the supporters will predominantly want to avoid a repeat of last season to ensure that they are not put through the same emotional rollercoaster.

But an added benefit will surely be that Gray is much more likely to get opportunities for Leeds if they are heading for a solid mid-table finish.

You get the impression that Marsch would not hesitate to use Gray at certain times. But it will be a lot easier to hand him chances if things are going well for Leeds.
