Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp makes Liverpool title favourites after Manchester City slipped to five points behind on Saturday.
In the Daily Mail, Redknapp got very excited about Liverpool’s title hopes and feels it is now his old club’s time to finally lift their first title of the Premier League era.
He said: “This is Liverpool’s time, their chance to make history. They have the team and manager. Sunday League players would be embarrassed to make the mistakes Nicolas Otamendi made against Norwich. Their defensive frailties were exposed. They have lost Aymeric Laporte.
“That is the equivalent of taking Virgil van Dijk out of the Liverpool team. For Liverpool, everything seems to be falling into place. It feels like the momentum has shifted. Klopp’s men are no longer the underdogs. They are now the frontrunners for the Premier League title. They conquered Europe, now they want to rule in their own back garden.”
TBR’s View – Redknapp looks to have gone a little too big too early here
Liverpool are in a great position and perhaps they would not have expected to have been five points clear of City with just five games gone.
But there’s a very long way to go in the title race yet. The Champions League kicking in will have an impact and there’s so much that can happen between now and May.
Liverpool have been less secure defensively this term and this grand statement from Redknapp indicates the hype and almost desperation that can surround the Reds’ title chases.
That doesn’t help Klopp’s side, who need to serenely focus on the next match and maintain their perfect start for as long as they can to ramp up the pressure on City.
