Jamie Redknapp makes Dan James claim after Leeds move
Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports (31/8; 15:35) that Dan James has the potential to be a star following his move to Leeds United as he backed Marcelo Bielsa to take his game to the next level.
James made one of the highest-profile moves of the final day of the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old has moved to Elland Road. Sky Sports reports that Leeds have paid £25 million to sign the Wales international.
It is a huge statement of intent from the Whites. And some may deem the move to be something of a gamble.
A look on social media would suggest that many Leeds fans felt that signing a new central midfielder was more important than adding another wide-man.
And of course, the fee involved in the move adds to the pressure on James’ shoulders.
But Redknapp insisted that the youngster has the potential to be an outstanding signing for Leeds.
“Going to Leeds, it’s a huge club with a great fan base and to work with a manager, Bielsa, who will take his game to another level and there will be more individual attention on him,” he told Sky Sports.
“He can be a bit of a star there and he can be a good signing for them.”
Dan James has the potential to be an incredibly exciting signing for Leeds – but he arrives with point to prove
Obviously, James has nothing to do with the fee involved in his move. But it does make it imperative that he hits the ground running.
Bielsa is clearly optimistic however, that he can get the best out of the former Swansea City man.
And if it does click, it could be an incredibly exciting move from Leeds. He certainly has the potential to get fans out of their seats.
He boasts lightning pace. And he does have plenty of top flight experience following his spell across the Pennines.
There is unquestionably a risk attached. But if it pays off, the deal could prove a masterstroke.
