Jamie Redknapp says Premier League title is Liverpool’s to lose

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that losing their Premier League lead would be like Devon Loch famously falling at the Grand National.

The Reds are eight points clear after 14 games and are yet to lose a league game so far during 2019/20.

Manchester City will still be viewed as main title challengers but they sit 11 points behind the Reds.

Liverpool have not won a league title for 30 years and Redknapp believes that it is already their title to lose this season.

He told the Daily Mail: “I have said for a while that it’s Liverpool’s title to lose and I stand by that.

“To miss out on their first title in 30 years after holding this lead will be devastating. It would be like Devon Loch at the 1956 Grand National – the horse who famously jumped a shadow and fell as he galloped towards the finish line.

“There will be bumps in the road but I don’t see that happening to Liverpool.”

Jurgen Klopp’s men are finding a way to win at all costs and right now they look unstoppable.

On Saturday the were forced to rely on a brace from Virgil van Dijk to secure victory in a game where Alisson Becker saw red for handling outside his penalty area.

Determined

That is exactly the point though. Liverpool are quite simply finding a way to win.

Defeat looked on the cards against Manchester United earlier in the season but a late Adam Lallana goal ensured a point. Two late goals were needed to defeat Aston Villa but Liverpool found them.

It’s fair to suggest that the Reds were arguably more fluent going forward and more resolute at the back last season.

City have regressed this season, it would seem. Pep Guardiola’s team have already lost three games – including one at Anfield and were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw against Newcastle on Saturday.

Klopp will be more determined than ever to finally bring a league title back to Anfield and Redknapp is right. Liverpool will never get a better chance to claim the elusive prize.
