Jamie Redknapp has sympathy for Arsenal star Thomas Partey
Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that he will give Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey the benefit of the doubt after an indifferent first season playing in the Premier League.
The pundit made the claims last night shortly before the Gunners defeated Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. Emile Smith Rowe’s goal after 16 minutes proving decisive for Mikel Arteta’s men.
Partey has suffered from a couple of niggling injuries and they have robbed him of the chance to gain any real consistency. Redknapp, however, thinks Liverpool will see the best of the 27-year-old next season.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s been tough for him, he’s had injuries and we have to give people time. Some just come to the league and they thrive. Others find it really difficult. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
“He’s got all the attributes. But there are other times when gets into what I would call ‘Arsenal mode’. I don’t want to see him like that, I want to see his high energy in midfield that runs games.
“Next year we’ll see the real Thomas Partey.”
TBR View: Redknapp is right, Partey will come good
It’s never easy coming from overseas to try and make an immediate impact on the Premier League. Partey arrived on deadline day last summer so didn’t get a proper pre-season with his teammates, whilst his injuries haven’t helped.
With that in mind, Arsenal would be wise to err on the side of caution with regards to too much heavy criticism. He has shown some bright moments – with the Ghanian pretty impressive against Chelsea last night.
Partey is among the highest-earning players at the Emirates Stadium and his time will come. The challenge for him is to hit the ground running during the close season and then be as ready as possible for next season.
The midfield maestro has 28 caps for the national team and he’s not become a bad player overnight. Arsenal fans must be patient with Partey and he’s shown enough throughout his career that he’ll come good for the Gunners.
