Jamie Redknapp was blown away by Everton star Gylfi Sigurdsson during his latest performance last night against Tottenham.
Sigurdsson was the Everton talisman on Friday evening with both his side’s goals in a 2-2 home draw against Spurs in the Premier League.
HIs first was a straightforward penalty into the right bottom corner. However, his second was a memorable one from the top drawer.
The 31-year-old attacking midfielder showed exquisite technique to let a cross run across his body before guiding into the net with his weaker left foot on the half volley.
He turned on the style against one of his former clubs.
Redknapp was amazed by the technique shown by the Iceland international with his second strike:
“Incredible, he makes it looks so easy [his second goal]. He’s very talented. He’s got two good feet. But to let it run across your body like that is so effortless,” Redknapp told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (10:22pm, 16 April).
Sigurdsson is someone that often comes in for heavy criticism with the Everton fanbase, as many feel he’s never really lived up to expectation since his move to Merseyside in 2017.
There is no denying though that on his day he’s a massive talent.
His performances have perhaps gone a little under the radar this season, as he’s now got eight goals and nine assists across all competitions from a creative midfield position.
Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez is the individual that so often dazzles at Goodison Park, but Sigurdsson was operating on the same wavelength against Spurs.
