Jamie Redknapp hails Liverpool decision to hand Jurgen Klopp a new deal

Jamie Redknapp has claimed in Daily Mail column that Liverpool have pulled off the “signing of the season” by handing Jurgen Klopp a new contract at Anfield until the summer of 2024.

Klopp continues to shine as Liverpool manager with the Reds 14 points clear of Manchester City and 10 ahead of Leicester City, winning 16 of their 17 Premier League fixtures this season. They extended their lead with a 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday.

The German manager has given Liverpool fans reason to dream of a first League title since 1990, while also remaining competitive in the Carabao Cup and the Champions League. There is no reason why Liverpool cannot win more than the league.

Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp has discussed Klopp signing a new deal until 2024 – hours after Steven Gerrard signed a contract for the same length at Rangers – describing the new contract as the “signing of the season”.

“Every fan out there must wish their players gave as much as those in red do for Jurgen Klopp. Getting the German to put pen to paper until 2024 is Liverpool’s signing of the season, without doubt,” Redknapp said.

“They still have to go on to win the title but I get the sense that club believe they can be dominant for years. They want to win it this season, then come back and defend it next year. Everything is in place for them to dominate.”

TBR’s view – Keeping Klopp crucial to Liverpool success

It goes without saying. Not only has Klopp developed a winning feeling in that every game is deemed must win, and anything less is a disappointment – but that the German has created a whole new way of playing.

Liverpool thrive on their full-backs. It’s a system that has hardly been used before – using a workhorse midfield that allows Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold to get forward.

Klopp’s genius, winning mentality and what seems to be the end of their Premier League drought, means keeping the former Borussia Dortmund gaffer is absolutely pivotal to the Merseyside club.
