Jamie Redknapp explains boost to Tottenham striker Harry Kane

Jamie Redknapp has explained that Tottenham’s Harry Kane has been given an individual boost by the fact the European Championships has been pushed back from this summer to 2021.

With most football currently suspended due to the COVID-19 virus, the international tournament has been pushed back a year and will now take place in the 2021 summer.

England captain Kane has been out of action since New Year’s Day with a hamstring problem and was facing a race against time to prove himself ahead of this summer, when Gareth Southgate was due to lead the Three Lions into another major tournament.

Redknapp claims that there is no longer any need to rush the 26-year-old back.

The £200,000-a-week star (Spotrac) recently explained to the club’s official website that he’s about two or three weeks away from returning to fitness, but like everyone else across the country is at home right now.

“So, perhaps, the one plus side to this summer’s European Championship being moved to 2021 is that it offers Kane time,” Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail.

“England’s figurehead will not have to rush to get back up to full speed and he can find his feet in the Premier League before taking to the international stage.”

TBR’s View:

This unprecedented break from football is at least giving injured players time to regain fitness and Kane should be ready to go whenever football can resume safely.

Kane is going to be central to any hope England has of winning a major tournament and he’s got an impressive record of 32 goals in his 45 senior caps so far.

The striker has had injury issues creep into his game over the last few years and the worst thing that could have happened for him is being rushed back yet again for the summer.
