Jame Redknapp believes that midfielder Thomas Partey is going to bring some “steel” to Arsenal in the centre of the park.

The Gunners confirmed on their official website that the 27-year-old has joined them from Spanish club Atletico Madrid and signed a “long-term” contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal activated a £45.3million release clause (BBC) to sign the Ghana international and he’s now set for his first taste of Premier League football.

Redknapp was discussing Partey hours before his transfer was officially announced yesterday and gave a positive verdict.

“His stats are incredible. He’s worked with [Diego] Simeone, I always think anybody that works with him you’ve got to be a hard working player, you’ve got to do all the right things,” Redknapp told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (8:13pm, 5 October).

“When you analyse Arsenal over the last few years that area where they do need a bit of strengthening is in midfield. He’ll add a little bit of steel. I think he’s the sort of signing Arsenal fans will be really pleased to get over the line.”

TBR’s View:

Arsenal appear to be on an upward trajectory right now under manager Mikel Arteta and their final signing of the summer transfer window could help improve even further.

The North London club have sealed the signature of a brilliant player on paper in Partey, who is proven on the top stage with Atletico and has played in elite matches.

There has been massive improvement in the midfield under Arteta with the likes of Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos thriving, but Partey looks like he could improve the XI.

He is an aggressive defensive midfielder that breaks up play and reads the game so well, plus he’s got the stamina and physicality that may see him suit the Premier League.
