Jamie Redknapp has given his verdict on close friend Jamie Reuben on Sky Sports’ The Football Show (Thursday, 09:30am) amid reports that he could be on Newcastle United’s new board should a takeover occur.

It has been widely reported that Amanda Staveley is forefronting her group PCP Capital Partners, that have been financially backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The Reuben Brothers are also involved.

The latter are considered the second wealthiest family in Britain. Brothers David and Simon Reuben built a fortune in real estate and technology, and David’s son Jamie Reuben will be included on a prospective Newcastle board – as per the Chronicle.

Currently a director at QPR, 32-year-old Reuben is a close friend with Redknapp and the ex-Liverpool star discussed what the potential new Newcastle board member is like – and how the potential takeover will benefit Newcastle in the transfer window.

“He’s [Reuben] a football fanatic, everytime you talk to him he wants to know about different players,” Redknapp said on Reuben. “I know that they are going to be looking at the market, and how the landscape is going to change.

“With Newcastle having new owners, and it might be wrong to say it, they’ve got huge backing and it is a perfect situation for Newcastle. It is a nice time for fans, they want some normality.”

TBR’s view – Newcastle fans must be patient amid hysteria

Even when a takeover is confirmed, which supporters will hope is before this summer’s transfer window, Newcastle supporters must remain patient. There has been talk – especially from Tino Asprilla – that Newcastle could mirror Manchester City.
But City have spent years fine-tuning the process. Yes, they are a European powerhouse now, but it must be done gradually – rather than a huge outlay of spending straight away. Plenty of questions remain unanswered, but fans are certainly excited.
In terms of the Reuben Brothers’ involvement, it remains to be seen how much influence they will have – given reports claim they will only boast a 10% stake in Newcastle, as will Staveley’s PCP group. PIF will have 80%.
