Jamie Redknapp claims he wants Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott to get opportunity

Jamie Redknapp has insisted that Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott should get a rare chance in the first-team.

The 18-year-old is a highly-rated striker to come out of the academy, but senior manager Jose Mourinho has gone on record to claim he’s not ready for first-team minutes.

He made his senior debut when he started the Carabao Cup defeat to Colchester United in September, which was when Mauricio Pochettino was still in charge.

His only other appearance with the main group was a late cameo from the bench in the Premier League against Burnley under Mourinho.

The Republic of Ireland international has been left on the bench during two FA Cup games so far in 2020, as the Portuguese boss continues to overlook him.

Spurs are currently without senior forward pair Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son due to injuries, but there has been no sign so far of Parrott coming into being a replacement.

“If Jose Mourinho needs a striker, then he could do worse than look at Troy Parrott,” Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail.

“Mourinho has claimed Parrott is ‘not ready’ but my sources at Tottenham say he is the real deal, with all the attributes to go to the very top. He has power, pace and is not the type to be fazed by a challenge.

“He’s been training with the first team, learning from the master Kane and has been capped by Ireland. I have every faith that Parrott is more than capable of doing a job for Mourinho and I hope he gets an opportunity to prove that, even if it’s off the substitutes’ bench.”

TBR’s View:

Parrott has been a goal machine at youth level and someone that fans are desperate to see in action, but it is Mourinho who gets to see him on a daily basis.

The worst scenario would be to throw him in when he’s not ready and the North London club are reaching a crunch part in their season.

But on the flip side he’s recently turned 18 where his development is starting to become crucial and it says a lot if he can’t get some form of chance when Spurs are without a recognised striker in their team right now.
