Jamie Redknapp and Tony Cascarino praise Brendan Rodgers as Leicester go third

Brendan Rodgers took more than his fair share of stick when he traded Celtic for Leicester City last season but he has now guided the Foxes to third place going into the forthcoming international break.

And Jamie Redknapp and Tony Cascarino were keen to praise the former Liverpool boss for the impact he has had since moving back south of the border.

In the Daily Mail, Redknapp wrote: “Leicester are capable of special things. They have the manager. This squad will love working with Rodgers. He will be encouraging his players to express themselves and to aim as high as possible. Could that be the top six, or even the top four? Leicester can be a powerhouse.”

Meanwhile, in the Times, Cascarino said: “Leicester can break into the top six and you have to give Brendan Rodgers credit. He seems to have achieved something Claude Puel couldn’t, greater creativity and control in midfield, but he has got Jamie Vardy firing again. This Leicester squad gives him a chance of a trophy.”

TBR’s View – Leicester so well-placed to take advantage of flawed top six sides

The matches between Manchester United and Chelsea and Arsenal versus Tottenham yesterday show just how flawed the sides in the top six are.

They have plenty of attacking intent and pace but remain shaky defensively. Leicester went to Chelsea and produced a composed, sturdy second half display worthy of a top six side.

That they didn’t win that match shows the leap in terms of being clinical that they still need to make in order to get into the top six but the high praise for Rodgers is absolutely spot on. He has transformed Leicester within months.
