Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp raved about Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg during Sky Sports’ live commentary of the north London derby – which saw Hojbjerg and Spurs cruise to a 2-0 win over Arsenal.
Goals from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane earned Tottenham all three points, as they returned to the top of the Premier League table – ahead of Liverpool on goal difference. Spurs continue to have the best defence in the league.
Hojbjerg, 25, has been crucial to that. Since signing, he has played every single minute of Premier League football for Spurs – acting as the club’s midfield general in front of the back four. Not only that, but his range of passing has also caught the eye.
Both Neville and Redknapp drooled over the Denmark international during commentary of the clash, which saw a Jose Mourinho-typical side completely nullify Arsenal in the final third. Redknapp claimed he was initially worried about Hojbjerg.

Redknapp: “He’s doing a sublime job for Tottenham. When he first joined and after the first game, I thought he might be a bit out of his depth but he has since become a bit of a player coach for Jose. Breaking up attacks, he has been brilliant.”
Neville: “I was toying between Dier and Hojbjerg, but I asked Jamie to my right and he said he thought Hojbjerg. I can’t disagree with it. He’s been absolutely outstanding. It was a toss up between the two, but he’s been fantastic in front of that backline.”
TBR’s view – Hojbjerg is surely the signing of the summer
Having joined for a bargain £15million figure – £12million of which Southampton spent on Kyle Walker-Peters – is stunning work by Daniel Levy. Even before he signed, £102k-a-week (Spotrac) man Hojbjerg was worth more than the figure Spurs paid.
But on Sunday, he came up against £45million Arsenal man Thomas Partey and completely outshone the Ghanaian star – a player that cost three times as much as Hojbjerg. Hojbjerg is the signing of the summer, and Arsenal should be frustrated.
