‘Really annoyed me’: TalkSPORT pundit slams Aston Villa players for what did against Brentford

TalkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara has slammed the Aston Villa players this weekend, despite seeing them hammer Brentford 4-0.

After sacking Steven Gerrard in the week, Villa put Aaron Danks in charge for the clash with the Bees and after making a few changes, Danks saw his side run out comfortable winners. It was a performance which had plenty of improvement about it across the pitch, and Gerrard must have been watching on wondering what happened.

However, despite the improved performance, Jamie O’Hara wasn’t impressed with Villa’s players, and accused them of basically throwing their former manager under the bus.

“It actually really annoyed me. It annoyed me because they obviously downed tools for Gerrard. Look, Aston Villa are a good team with some good players. But it annoyed me that the energy and performance they put in is kind of where you need to look at yourselves then as players,” O’Hara said on TalkSPORT.

“The mentality within the group, because you’ve obviously showed that you downed tools for Gerrard and his coaching staff, and that’s not right. Gerrard did everything he could to try and get results and when you look at it, nothing much changed massively, it was just the effort changed.”

Villa moved themselves clear of the drop zone with the three points. Danks made big calls to drop John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey as he looked to put his own stamp on things early.

TBR’s View: Villa Players Need To Look At Themselves

We see this too often in football. Players seem to be unable to play under a certain manager then within days look like world beaters when they’ve been sacked. Frankly, it’s unacceptable.

Villa’s players were a shambles against Fulham and then only days later, with a member of staff in charge who was already there with Gerrard, produce this performance. It must really sting for Gerrard, but may say more about his players than him.

Villa are keen to give a new manager an open chequebook. And that might be needed to replace half of these players if O’Hara’s comments on their attitude are correct.
