Jamie O’Hara ripped into Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso last night during his performance in the win over Southampton.
Ryan Mason started off his reign as Spurs interim boss with a 2-1 victory at home to Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday.
Despite going behind to a Danny Ings header in the first half, Gareth Bale equalised on the hour mark with a stunning left-footed effort into the top corner. Heung-Min Son then went on to convert a 90th minute penalty.
The north London club are now sixth in the league standings after their win just two points adrift of the Champions League positions, but they have played a game more than fourth-placed Chelsea.
Pundit and ex-Spurs player O’Hara couldn’t help criticise Lo Celso though during the contest.
He delivered a tough assessment of the 25-year-old attacking midfielder by explaining he wants too long on the ball.
“Lo Celso wants half hour on the ball every time he gets it,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
TBR’s View:
For Lo Celso, it’s clear that he’s got bags of ability, but he’s had a stop-start time during his Spurs career due to injury problems.
The creative playmaker has played just 24 senior games across all competitions this season, scoring five goals in return.
It’s a fair point from O’Hara that the Argentine likes to get on the ball, and perhaps he takes a little too long searching for a golden pass, something that you won’t get away with in the quick nature of the Premier League.
However, he can be encouraged that he was named in the starting XI for Mason’s first game in charge, albeit he couldn’t quite deliver his best against Southampton.
It was a mixed performance for him, but he was heavily involved in the build up for a Son goal that was ultimately disallowed.
