Jamie O’Hara is not a happy man after Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League.
Spurs have been terrible in the English top flight this season. They have lost 18 games so far and are currently 16th in the table.
The only reason Tottenham are not in a relegation battle right now is that the three promoted sides have been significantly worse than them and 17th-place Wolves.
Ange Postecoglou is very fortunate to still have a job, and O’Hara, despite his frustrations, doesn’t think it makes much sense to replace the Australian right now.
Jamie O’Hara reacts to Ryan Mason replacing Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
Daniel Levy has sacked managers at Tottenham in the past for far less than what Postecoglou has achieved this season.
Losing 18 league games and crashing out of both domestic competitions would usually be the end of the road for managers at Spurs, but the Australian has survived.
Staying alive in the Europa League is a big reason why Postecoglou still has his job, but following Monday night’s defeat to Nottingham Forest, quite a few Tottenham fans have called for him to be sacked.
The obvious immediate replacement would be Ryan Mason, who has taken the interim job at Tottenham on two different occasions in the past.
O’Hara doesn’t fancy that at all and would rather have Postecoglou continue until at least after the semi-finals of the Europa League.
He said on talkSPORT: “Come on, mate, you can’t have Ryan Mason taking the semi-final. You can’t, mate. Come on, do me a favour. What are you talking about? You can’t do that.
“He (Postecoglou) has got the semi-final, you’ve got to give him the semi-final. I know it’s painful and I know it’s unacceptable, but you can’t sack him now.
“There’s no point, it’s pointless. See if he can get through the semi-final.”
Should Tottenham keep Ange Postecoglou if he wins the Europa League
Tottenham are the favourites to beat Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Unless something dramatic happens, Spurs should go through, and they will face one of Manchester United or Athletic Club in the final.
Tottenham have been awful this season, but on their day, they are more than capable of beating one of the two above clubs and lifting the title.
If that happens, should Spurs stick with Postecoglou for one more season? We don’t think so.
Manchester United made the same mistake by keeping Erik ten Hag after a terrible season, just because he won a trophy in the end. That turned out to be a poor decision.
We think that would be the case at Spurs as well if they stick with Postecoglou.
The best outcome for Tottenham would be to see their manager lift the Europa League; they can then give Postecoglou a statue outside the stadium, thank him for his services and let him go.
