Jamie O’Hara says he would like Tottenham to sign £57m defender, amid Spurs links

Jamie O’Hara has claimed he would like to see Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte at Tottenham, amid speculation linking him to Spurs.

According to the Athletic, Laporte is one player that could be used as a makeweight by Man City in a deal to sign Spurs forward Harry Kane this summer.

Laporte, 27, is reportedly someone that could be offered to Spurs, albeit at the cost of star striker Kane.

The £57million defender is a serial winner from his time at the Etihad Stadium, so many view him as one of the top centre-backs playing in England.

He’s won three Premier Leagues, four League Cups and one FA Cup in domestic competitions at Man City.

The centre-half is currently at Euro 2020 playing a key role with Spain after switching international alliances. For example, he scored in the winner for Spain against Slovakia and has played every minute so far.

Pundit and ex-Spurs man O’Hara has admitted he would like to see Laporte at the north London club.

“If Harry Kane was going to go, I’d take Laporte if that was on offer. I think that would be a great signing,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.

Tottenham should consider Laporte, but preferably not at the expense of Kane

Spurs should do what they can to keep talisman Kane. However, if the England captain does everything to force a move they have allow him to leave.

A player-plus-cash negotiation with Man City seems a great option, so perhaps they should start mulling over some Etihad stars.

Laporte did lose his starting position in Pep Guardiola’s best XI last season. But, he’s been outstanding for his club since he joined in January 2018.

He’s in the prime years of his career, too, at the age of 27.

Above all, he could improve drastically a vulnerable defence.
