TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Arsenal defender William Saliba is not good enough and should be sold before the transfer window shuts.

The Gunners signed the talented Frenchman from Saint Etienne when he was still a teenager back in 2019. He was viewed by many as the future of the Gunners’ backline, but after three years now, he’s yet to play a senior competitive game in the famous red and white.

Saliba, however, was given a chance by Mikel Arteta in Arsenal’s pre-season games this summer, and he was beyond incredible. The 21-year-old was arguably the best player on the pitch at times and Gunners supporters are in love with him.

Arsenal take on Crystal Palace in the opening game of the new Premier League season on Friday, and Saliba is expected to get the nod. However, O’Hara believes he should be gone.

O’Hara was quizzed about the players Arsenal should keep and sell this summer. He was asked about Saliba, and the Tottenham-supporting pundit didn’t even know who he was.

“Who?” said O’Hara on talkSPORT Edge, before saying: “I mean you’re asking me about players, I have no interest in Arsenal whatsoever.

“If you have loaned him out and he has been there three seasons, you’ve loaned him out twice [then] he obviously ain’t good enough.

“Get rid of him!”

Arteta hailed Saliba just nine days ago

Saliba started Arsenal’s pre-season game against Chelsea in the United States nine days ago. Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka stole all the headlines in the 4-0 win, but the young French defender really impressed at the back.

Arteta was quizzed about Saliba after the game, and the Arsenal boss claimed that he was a player with ‘huge potential. He also said that the defender, despite only being 21, is ‘already a top player’.

The Spaniard told Football London: “I am really pleased to see the way he is playing, the way he has adapted to the team, the maturity that he’s shown at 21 years old, carry on doing it.

“We will keep developing him, he has a huge potential, he is already a top player and we have to make him even better. He looked ready to me today.”
