Jamie O’Hara questions Jose Mourinho decision in opening day Tottenham defeat

Jamie O’Hara has called out Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho for a tactical decision he made on Sunday during the Premier League defeat to Everton.

Spurs started the new league campaign with a 1-0 loss at home to Everton and they were unable to get anywhere near top gear during the contest.

The North London club now travel to Bulgarian club Lokomitv Plovdiv on Thursday, before a trip to Southampton three days later for their next league fixture.

Ex-Spurs midfielder O’Hara wasn’t impressed with Mourinho for a selection he made midway through the Everton game.

After replacing Dele Alli with Moussa Sissoko at half-time, he moved the latter to the right flank despite the fact he usually operates in the centre of the park.

O’Hara has admitted he’s mystified by the decision from the Portuguese manager to use Sissoko out wide despite having both wingers Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn as options on the bench

Bergwijn did eventually enter the action 15 minutes, while teammate Lamela was an unused substitute.

“Mourinho has to take blame… at half-time he took Alli off and put Sissoko on right midfield when he had Lamela and Bergwijn sat on the bench,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.

TBR’s View:

Despite the fact Spurs desperately need a back-up to Harry Kane at striker, they have plenty of options when it comes to the wide areas and attacking positions of the pitch.

Mourinho arguably still needs to find a system that gets the best out of his players in an attacking sense, as they looked lost for large spells of the Everton game.

Bergwijn, Lamela, Alli, Ryan Sessegnon, Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura are all vying for positions in the starting XI and Mourinho has a job on his hands to find the best combination.
