Jamie O’Hara makes transfer claim that will worry Tottenham fans

Jamie O’Hara has told TalkSPORT that he is unsure if Tottenham Hotspur have the funds to spend big on new players this summer, after splashing out on the new stadium.

The Sun claim the new ground, which can hold 62,062 fans, cost an enormous £850million to build. It is the third most expensive stadium in Europe, behind Wembley and Zenit St. Petersburg’s Krestovsky Stadium.

Spurs have failed to sign any new players in the past two transfer windows, and desperately need to bring in some fresh blood in order to maintain their push for the Premier League title and go again in the Champions League.

Former Spurs midfielder O’Hara does not believe that there is money to spend for Mauricio Pochettino this summer, because so much has been spent on the new ground this season.

“Everyone involved is going to want the club to push on now,” O’Hara said. “Daniel Levy has to look at it, and think ‘I’ve got to back this manager’. I’ve got to get the warchest out, if there is one. I don’t think there is.

“With the money they have spent on the stadium, and there choice not to delve into the market, I don’t think the money is there yet. I don’t think they’re going to have the money to back Pochettino, and that’s why I am worried.”

TBR’s view

O’Hara could be onto something. The new ground has cost the club an enormous amount of money, and opting against spending money in two transfers windows hardly equates to breaking even.

The stadium cost an enormous £850million, and it would be a fair few windows before that can be wiped off. Instead, Spurs need to sell to bring in some funds and look to further the squad’s depth.

Christian Eriksen can be sold for a huge fee, while Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld may bring in some cash. It remains to be seen if Spurs will indeed spend some money this summer.
