Jamie O’Hara delivers verdict on James Tarkowski, comments on West Ham’s survival hopes

Jamie O’Hara has told TalkSPORT (Tuesday, 8.40am) that West Ham United may fail to earn a single Premier League point by November as David Moyes’ side continues to struggle – and discussed the potential signing of Burnley star James Tarkowski.

West Ham have suffered two defeats in their first two Premier League games, though the 2-1 loss to Arsenal on Saturday evening was a much better performance than the 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United.

The Hammers are yet to bring in any signings this summer other than a permanent deal for Tomas Soucek, despite desperately needing additions at right-back, left-back, centre-back and then elsewhere.

BBC Sport claimed earlier this month that West Ham had tabled a third bid worth £30million for Tarkowski, and it remains to be seen if such a move will go through. O’Hara, though, thinks West Ham will struggle and commented on Tarkowski.

“Is Tarkowski the quality they need? They need more, I think he will help but more is needed,” O’Hara said. “They’ve sold good players like Diangana, but they will be definitely be struggling.

“They will definitely be down there at the end of the season. Look at their next five fixtures (Wolves, Leicester, Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool), they’re not going to have a point by November.”

TBR’s view – West Ham need to take action, and quickly

While O’Hara’s claim that West Ham might not have any points by November is somewhat harsh – especially given his past Tottenham connections – there is a degree of concern from a West Ham point of view, that he could be on to something.

Their next five Premier League opponents – Tottenham, Liverpool, Wolves, Leicester and Man City – beat West Ham home and away in the league last term. New signings are desperately required, or O’Hara’s claim will begin to become more likely.
