Jamie O'Hara criticises Yves Bissouma's performance in Brentford vs Tottenham
Spurs fans expected a change from their side on Boxing Day, but it was same old, same old. Antonio Conte’s men were shocking for large parts of the game. They went 2-0 down inside 55 minutes, but as we’ve seen many times already this season, they found a way to come back and avoid defeat.
Bissouma, however, failed to impress.
Jamie O’Hara criticises Yves Bissouma’s performance in Brentford vs Tottenham
When Tottenham splashed £25 million (BBC) to sign Bissouma back in the summer transfer window, almost every Premier League fan felt it was an amazing signing.
The Mali international was sensational for the Seagulls during his time there. He was one of the best holding midfielders in the country back then, but things just haven’t worked out for him at Spurs.
Conte has preferred Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in the heart of Tottenham’s midfield. That has limited Bissouma to just seven starts in the Premier League and none in Europe.
However, with Bentancur out with an injury, the 26-year-old was given the nod yesterday, and O’Hara doesn’t believe he had a great game at all.
“Bissouma is Mr touch tackle. He’s absolutely shocking,” he tweeted during the game yesterday.
Bissouma didn’t have a great game yesterday but that doesn’t make him a bad player.
The 26-year-old has proven his class in the Premier League over the last few years. If he gets a consistent run of games, he will likely get back to his best, but whether Conte will give him that is the big question.
When Bentancur returns, it’s almost certain that he’ll come straight back into the side. That means Bissouma will have to settle for a spot on the bench again, which is a real shame.
It will be interesting to how this pans out, but yesterday’s performance definitely does not define the Mali international.
