Jamie O’Hara claims dropping Eric Dier has helped Tottenham

Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has made the right call by dropping Eric Dier from the starting XI recently.

Dier, who earns £72,000-a-week (Spotrac), has been a mainstay in the defence for a large part of the season in the Premier League.

But the centre-back has been left on the bench in the last three consecutive league fixtures.

The 27-year-old will have had mixed emotions after watching Spurs secure three victories on the spin without him playing.

Mourinho has rotated fairly frequently during this campaign in search of his preferred centre-half combination and Dier has featured heavily in his plans, but he’s currently out of favour.

O’Hara feels that the England international is out of the team on merit right now.

“The back four as well… I think taking Eric Dier out of the firing line a bit has paid off massively as they look a lot more solid,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.

TBR’s View:

If Dier can rediscover his early-season form, there is no reason why he can’t force his way back into the team.

With the Europa League knockouts about to continue, it seems likely he will get his opportunity to impress in the side at some point soon and he needs to try find some consistency back in is game where he cuts out mistakes.

It should be a concern for him with the European Championships approaching that he currently finds himself out of his club’s starting XI.
