Jamie O’Hara admitted that he found the most recent performance of Tottenham star Harry Kane “frustrating”, as he continued to take deep positions on the pitch.
Spurs booked their spot in the Carabao Cup final with a 2-0 win over Brentford on Tuesday night and they will face Manchester City for the silverware in April.
Jose Mourinho’s side put in a disciplined performance at home to Championship opposition Brentford, with Moussa Sissoko and Heung-Min Son both on the scoresheet.
Pundit and ex-Spurs midfielder O’Hara wasn’t too impressed though on Twitter with the way 27-year-old Kane took up space on the pitch.
The centre-forward dropped into deeper number 10 pockets throughout the match, but it was hardly new technique and has been playing that way in Mourinho’s system.
It might not be the most pleasing on the eye, but the England captain is continuing to post impressive figures and he got the pre-assist in the build-up to Son’s goal against Brentford.
TBR’s View:
It may not look like vintage Kane with the way he’s playing and everyone wants to see such a natural finisher constantly around the 18-yard box, but his game has developed to make him an all-round attacker.
Him dropping deeper on the pitch allows him to influence games more with his creativity, which is a large reason why he’s supplied 14 assists in 25 games across all competitions so far this season.
The fact he’s chipped in with 17 goals on top of that shows it’s not impacting his scoring and it’s just taking some time for the neutral to adjust to his new-look style.
