Former Liverpool Jamie Carragher says the Reds are defending with a higher line this season, trying to catch forwards offside and doesn’t like it.
The Sky Sports pundit highlighted the issue on Monday Night Football, 10:40pm, 19/08, and believes that Jurgen Klopp’s side could be caught out this Saturday against Arsenal.
Carragher said: “They’re trying to play offside now. I don’t like it, they’ve been lucky and fortunate to get away with it this season. I’m seeing it too often. I’m not liking what I’m seeing.
“Liverpool have got away with it, the quality they’ve played hasn’t been top class. The quality Arsenal have, if Liverpool get caught in those positions, they’re going to have major problems. Better quality strikers will make Liverpool pay.”

TBR’s View – Using an offside trap against Arsenal’s rapid frontline is a major risk
Liverpool might expect to exploit Arsenal’s traditional defensive vulnerabilities to the extent that their own backline is not properly tested.
But this Arsenal side look better this season and if it is a more even game, playing a high line and an offside trap against Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette would be a huge risk from Klopp.
Southampton and Norwich have been able to get chances because of it, so as Carragher says, the Gunners duo – with Nicolas Pepe also lurking – would fancy their chances of springing in behind.
