‘He’s struggling’: Jamie Carragher thinks one Liverpool player has been poor against Everton in the first half

Liverpool and Everton are taking each other on in Premier League action this afternoon and it’s not been the greatest 45 minutes from the Reds at the moment.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been nowhere near their free-flowing best in the opening 45 minutes and Everton have been well in the game in the main. Anthony Gordon has been one of the standout players, giving Trent Alexander-Arnold a difficult afternoon so far in the Anfield sun.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold’s performance – especially in the opening 20 minutes of the game – was being watched carefully by the onlooking Jamie Carragher. And the former Liverpool defender admitted that the opening quarter of the game hadn’t gone well for Alexander-Arnold at all.

“He hasn’t made a great start to the game, Alexander-Arnold on the far side. There’s been three or four passes he’s given away and he’s been caught out a couple of times as well already. He’s struggling to be a part of Liverpool getting on the ball and creating things as well,” Carragher said while on co-comms for Sky.

Alexander-Arnold seemed to struggle initially with the direct running and speed of Gordon. The Everton man did pick up a booking midway through the half though, which could impact his performance in the second 45.

TBR’s View: Liverpool Looking Nervy For Once

After being so brilliant against Manchester United last week, Liverpool haven’t looked anywhere near their best in this game against Everton.

To Everton’s credit, they have set up well and seem to be cutting out a lot of what makes Liverpool such a good team.

A big second half awaits both teams really. Liverpool, as we know, can score at will when they get into their groove and Jurgen Klopp will be looking for more from his team.
