Further, after coming on against Wolves last time out, Gelhardt made an immediate impact and looked every bit the Premier League player as he won a penalty near the end of that game.

Ahead of his debut for Leeds at Tottenham today, someone who knows him well, Jamie Carragher, was among those to take to Twitter and wish him well. Of course, Carragher knows Gelhardt well from Wigan. The former Liverpool defender’s son, James, is also on the Latics’ books.

Gelhardt, 19, has already earned comparisons to Premier League greats like Wayne Rooney and he’ll be hoping for a big impact on the game today.

With Patrick Bamford out, it’s a huge chance for Gelhardt to make a real statement to Bielsa and co.

TBR’s View: Gelhardt starting for Leeds is a worry for Tottenham

We’ve seen young players come in and dominate before and Gelhardt will be itching to get at Tottenham’s defence today.

With Cristian Romero missing, it’s a huge chance for Gelhardt to really make his presence known against some Spurs defenders who have been far from great in recent times.

Leeds fans, too, will be hoping the debut from Gelhardt is something to remember. Certainly, like Carragher, they’ll be keeping a close eye on the former Wigan man.
