Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has tipped Kylian Mbappe – a player who remains linked with the Reds – to become the world’s top player in the next two to three years, in conversation with Sky Sports.
The Frenchman has been superb for Paris Saint-Germain since his €180million (£166million) move from Monaco in 2017, having registered 90 goals and 49 assists in just 120 competitive appearances for the capital club.

Transfer speculation is never far away from Mbappe, with Liverpool having been linked with him on numerous occasions and Real Madrid also said to be interested in the 2018 World Cup winner’s services (Liverpool Echo).
The latest report linking Mbappe with the Anfield side comes from AS, which has claimed that the Ligue 1 giants as willing to let him leave on a free transfer at the end of his current deal – the 21-year-old’s contract runs until the summer of 2022 and PSG are reportedly desperate to avoid losing the forward before then.
On Sky Sports, Carragher picked his top 10 draft selections from world football and listed Mbappe as his number one choice, saying: “I think he’s very close to being the best player in the world and that’s going to happen in the next two or three years, so I certainly think he would be number one.”
TBR View:
Liverpool are a world-class club boasting a world-class squad, which Mbappe would complement nicely – though the numbers be involved in such a move would most likely be eye-watering.
The AS report suggesting PSG are willing to let Mbappe go on a free in two years’ time appears unrealistic, to put it mildly, especially given how much progress he’ll have made in the next two years and how much of an asset he’d be.
That said, stranger things have happened in football, and if Liverpool can get their hands on the Frenchman in the coming year or two, then he’s sure to arrive at Anfield to much fanfare.
