Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold for his display in last night’s Champions League match, saying the Reds right-back was “outstanding”.
The 22-year-old had an off day against Real Madrid in last week’s quarter-final first-leg defeat, but looked back to his best against Aston Villa at the weekend.
He followed up that display with another good performance in last night’s quarter-final second leg at Anfield, though their goalless draw wasn’t enough to proceed to the semi-finals.

Alexander-Arnold defended well and showed superb attacking intent with some exciting runs and great crosses which could’ve resulted in several assists to his name on another day.
“I thought (Nathaniel Phillips) was brilliant,” Carragher told CBS Sport on Paramount+ (14/04/21, 9:55 pm). “I thought Trent was outstanding as well.
“These are the two players that got a lot of criticism in the first leg. Certainly on that first goal. But again, they were excellent.
“Trent, again, on the back of his performance in the first leg where he was really poor. I thought he was outstanding defensively and offensively.
“And with better finishing, he could have had a couple of assists.”
TBR View:
Alexander-Arnold has set the bar so high for himself that when he does have an off-day or a run of poor form, it stands out much more.
Credit to him for quickly putting the first-leg display behind him and working hard to deliver two great displays in a row – and counting, hopefully.
