Jamie Carragher has told Open Goal that he thinks Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is the best British boss around at the moment, and thinks he has a chance of managing Arsenal or Chelsea in the future.
Rodgers returned to the Premier League in January 2019 with Leicester City after rejuvenating his managerial career at Celtic, where he won everything on offer. However, before being able to win a triple treble, he left for Leicester.
It caused backlash among Celtic supporters but fast forward until now and it has proved to be the right decision – with Rodgers re-establishing Leicester in Europe and among the top six of the Premier League. This season, they are pushing for the top four.
Asked whether Rodgers could manage Manchester United, Carragher responded – claiming his old Liverpool boss would not go to Old Trafford but has a chance of managing Arsenal or Chelsea, the latter of whom he worked for under Jose Mourinho.

“I think Brendan is the best British coach out there,” Carragher said. “Who else is there? I think he could manage Chelsea or Arsenal, but not Manchester United because of the Liverpool connection. I don’t think he will manage Liverpool again.
“I think Rodgers is better than Lampard and Arteta. He’s got more experienced, he’s managed in different leagues with Celtic, cup finals, Champions League, he’s done a lot. You don’t get a top job unless you play good football.”
“He deserves another chance after Leicester, at a bigger club such as Arsenal or Chelsea.”
TBR’s view – Rodgers is likely to be candidate if Arteta is sacked
The Gunners have failed to win a Premier League match since their 1-0 win over Manchester United, and they sit way down in 15th place. Arteta’s saving grace is likely to be the Europa League, and if they can beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
A long-term project for Arteta does not involve relegation and a dogfight at the bottom looks more and more inevitable. Rodgers is likely to be favourite if Arteta is sacked soon – but would he leave Leicester for a side far below? Right now, probably not.
