Hugo Ekitike might have been one of the few people associated with Liverpool who would have been disappointed by the arrival of Alexander Isak.
Ekitike has made a flying start to his career at Anfield, having produced three goals and one assist in his first four matches for the club.
But following Liverpool’s signing of Isak from Newcastle on deadline day, his place in the team appears to be under real threat.
Arne Slot will now have to decide how he is going to fit both number nines into his team, and Jamie Carragher has been discussing how he thinks it could work.

Jamie Carragher on Hugo Ekitike’s role after Alexander Isak’s arrival
Carragher believes that Hugo Ekitike could play a floater role in Arne Slot’s squad following the arrival of Alexander Isak on transfer deadline day.
The Liverpool legend believes that Isak will now become the new starting number nine, while the Frenchman could be moved to the left.
Ekitike could compete with Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha for a spot on the left side of the Reds’ attack, but also in a two-man strike partnership alongside Isak.
When asked how Liverpool could now line up, Carragher told Sky Sports News: “Well, I think Mo Salah plays on the right wing, I think Isak plays centre forward now, I think Florian Wirtz will play in the number ten position, and the left wing position is up for grabs.
“Gakpo, young Rio (Ngumoha), maybe Ekitike can play there; he can also fill in for Isak. Maybe at times we’ll see a front two deployed by the manager because Florian Wirtz can play from the left as well.”
Thierry Henry is a big fan of Ekitike and has backed him to be a huge success for Liverpool following what has been an impressive start from the striker.
Meanwhile, Alan Pardew feels sorry for Ekitike after Isak arrived at the club, as it means that he could quite easily lose his place in the team.
Slot now faces the tricky task of trying to line up the Reds whilst keeping all of his attacking talent happy.
Jamie Carragher on Harvey Elliott leaving Liverpool and joining Aston Villa
Carragher has praised Harvey Elliott’s decision to leave Liverpool for Aston Villa after the attacker left Anfield on the final day of the window.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that everyone was the winner from that move as Liverpool got a good fee and Villa got a strong player.
“I think it’s a good move for everybody really, when you think of what he did in the summer, voted the best player at the U-21 tournament that England won,” added Carragher.
“He’s now going to move to another huge football club, he probably had to take a little step down from Liverpool. Liverpool are going for the title and Champions League and it’s very difficult to become a regular in that team.”
