Jamie Carragher has shared what’s really confusing him about Arsenal this season.

Speaking on The Overlap, the former Liverpool man explained that while he believes Arsenal have a decent chance of winning the Premier League, he’s unsure if their recent habit of winning late is sustainable.

Arsenal picked up a 4-3 win over Luton Town on Tuesday evening thanks to a 97th-minute header from Declan Rice.

The Gunners have left it late on a few occasions already this season, having picked up an extra nine points thanks to goals in the latter stages of games.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta’s men have scored a winner in the 89th minute or later on three occasions this season.

They have also bagged late goals against Chelsea and Manchester City, which earned them a point at Stamford Bridge and all three against the champions.

But Jamie Carragher is unsure whether or not Arteta’s side will be able to continue to produce last-minute winners throughout the campaign.

Carragher on what’s confusing him about Arsenal

Speaking on Stick to Football, Carragher admitted he’s slightly confused by Arsenal’s brilliant start to the season.

The pundit claims he was more impressed with their start last time out, but admitted they are in with a good shot at winning the title this time around.

“They’ve [Arsenal] got a decent chance [of winning the league],” he said. “When I’ve watched Arsenal this season, last season I was probably more impressed with them.

“This season I can’t quite work out if these last-minute goals are a good thing. You’ve got to score last-minute winning goals to win a title, that’s a fact, but it feels like it’s happened so often that those games can sometimes easily go the other way.

“It just feels like every game has to go to the wire. It doesn’t feel like any game is easy.”

There’s no doubt that Arsenal haven’t hit their best form yet and the win at Luton was far from convincing. But after missing out on the title last season, there seems to be a different resilience about Arteta’s men this term.

Many great teams of the past have relied on late goals to pick up crucial three points on their way to the title.

Indeed, Manchester United made a habit of it under Sir Alex Ferguson, particularly at Old Trafford.

The Gunners currently sit five points clear at the top of the table and they haven’t even hit their best run of form yet.

If Arteta can keep his most important players fit, you’d imagine that Arsenal will be right in the mix, particularly with City struggling so far this season.
