Jamie Carragher has shared what Gary Neville messaged him immediately after it was announced that Jurgen Klopp will be stepping down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.

The football world was stopped in its tracks late last week. Liverpool announced that Jurgen Klopp would be leaving the club in the summer after an incredible tenure at Anfield.

Unsurprisingly, Gary Neville saw the opportunity to take a swipe at Jamie Carragher following the news.

Of course, Klopp has overseen Liverpool’s rise at a time when Manchester United have disappeared as title contenders. And he led the Reds to their first league title in 30 years in 2020.

It seems that Neville is hoping that their wait for the next league crown will be just as long. Speaking on Stick to Football, Carragher shared the message the Manchester United hero sent him when Klopp announced his departure.

“I wake up and I get the Klopp news. He then text me saying he’s in the same place skiing. I was like oh no,” he said.

“Can I read you what he sent me? I am in Courchevel. Your manager is f—— off and that’s you lot f—- for another 30 years.”

Reds facing monumental decision in the summer

Manchester United’s fortunes over the last decade certainly act as a warning to Liverpool. Sir Alex Ferguson handed the Premier League champions over to David Moyes. And they have barely challenged since.

Liverpool are currently top of the table. So Klopp could hand his successor a title-winning team also. If they get their next appointment right, it could be another fantastic spell in their history.

But clearly, that is a monumental task given how Klopp is now standing alongside some of the greatest managers the club has ever had.
