Jamie Carragher shares his honest verdict on Liverpool under Arne Slot after watching them in pre-season

Liverpool kick off their latest Premier League campaign this weekend and Jamie Carragher has made an interesting comparison to the Jurgen Klopp era.

The Reds take on Ipswich Town in what could be a potentially tricky opener for Arne Slot’s side.

Worryingly for Liverpool and Slot, the club have yet to make a signing all summer. This, despite the team of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes being in place.

Still, there is the usual feeling of optimism with a new manager in place.

And Jamie Carragher has suggested that after seeing Liverpool’s pre-season, there is cause for excitement.

Jamie Carragher makes Liverpool prediction ahead of facing Ipswich Town

Speaking in his latest column for The Telegraph, Carragher has made comparisons to the start Slot faces to that which Klopp faced a few seasons back.

“Having seen in pre-season how Slot intends to play, there is the feeling of excitement which accompanies a managerial change,” Carragher commented.

“Two years ago, Liverpool began the season at a newly promoted side, were outplayed by Fulham, and in retrospect it was the beginning of the end of the Klopp era.

“They head to Ipswich Town to start a new chapter. A good start will reassure Liverpool they will reap the rewards from the Slot machine.”

Liverpool will be just fine

There is a worry at the club about their ability to attract players with the news of Martin Zubimendi turning down a move to Anfield.

Likewise, Liverpool missed out on Leny Yoro to Manchester United, albeit the defender is now injured.

However, Liverpool will be just fine and they are well set really after a good summer window in 2023.

That summer saw them address the midfield area and they’ve managed to keep the likes of Salah, Diaz, and Nunez as well.

A good start at Portman Road will set the tone and a big win will soon put fears over the lack of signings to the back of fans’ minds.
