Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter with a message for the Anfield club in wake of reports claiming Chelsea and Manchester City are planning to pull out of the European Super League.
On Sunday night, the football world was rocked by news that 12 European teams, including six Premier League sides, had agreed to establish a new midweek competition governed by its ‘founding clubs’.
The ESL said the founding clubs had agreed to establish a “new midweek competition” with teams continuing to “compete in their respective national leagues”.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham made up the English contingent.
Meanwhile AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid had joined from continental Europe.
However, two Premier League teams have reportedly begun proceedings to withdraw from the competition amid backlash from many fans, pundits and even players and coaches.
According to BBC Sport, Chelsea are preparing documentation to request their withdrawal from the European Super League.
And Manchester City are also reported to be planning their exit from the competition.
