A lot has been made of Liverpool’s lack of signings this summer but Jamie Carragher feels they already have a youngster in the squad better than one reported target.
The Reds have failed to bring in any new players and ahead of facing Brentford on Sunday, Arne Slot still doesn’t have a new signing.
Martin Zubimendi opted to stay with Real Sociedad instead of joining Liverpool, while the Reds’ search for a new defender has also proved fruitless thus far.
Of course, Liverpool do have a brilliant squad already so new additions are not considered overly urgent.
And according to club legend Jamie Carragher, Liverpool already have a midfielder in the form of Harvey Elliott who he’d take over one current target.
Jamie Carragher says he’d take Harvey Elliott over Adam Wharton
As we know, Liverpool are thought to be keen on Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
Having been included for the Euros squad, Wharton’s stock is high at the moment.

However, speaking about Wharton and current Liverpool star Harvey Elliott for Sky Sports, Carragher admitted he’d go with Elliott right now due to the sheer amount of games he’s played.
“I’m going to go with Harvey Elliott, because I think we forget how young he is. He’s already played 100 games for Liverpool,” Carragher quipped.
Adam Wharton would be ideal for Liverpool
Liverpool and Arne Slot clearly fancy a holding midfielder who can take the ball and play forward, hence their pursuit of Zubimendi.
That one is not happening though and in Adam Wharton, they have a potential signing who would really be the business in midfield.
Wharton’s rise has been quite something in the middle of the park and he was unlucky not to feature in the Euros in the end.
Wharton has been lauded as being a ‘top level’ player Declan Rice, while coincidentally, Jamie Carragher is also a huge admirer of him.
Liverpool, then, might well fancy making a big push in the final week.
