Jamie Carragher has been blown away by Tottenham star Tanguy Ndombele, praising him for his individual talent and also the way he’s improved.
The 24-year-old had a mediocre last year at Spurs last season, which came off the back of him signing for a club-record fee of £63million (Sky Sports) from Lyon.
But the Frenchman has been far more influential this campaign, becoming an important figure in Jose Mourinho’s XI.
He is a central midfielder that has improved defensively off the ball, something required in any Mourinho side.
But lately the trickster has been given a licence to drift forward into a more advanced number 10 position and he’s been impacting matches in the final third.
Sky Sports pundit Carragher has given a glowing verdict on the Spurs man:
“What he is, and I had a couple of these at Liverpool, you buy them as central midfield players… but you end up playing them as a number 10,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (10:40pm, 18 January).
“There is no doubt that lad has talent and what I should say is he’s been a lot better in that position. I think Spurs fans really like him, he does lots of lovely bits of skill at different times.”
There is every chance Ndombele clinched Spurs’ goal of the season at the weekend, as he netted a stunning chipped goal over his shoulder in the 3-1 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League.
He’s now up to four goals in all competitions this campaign and he should be striving to be someone that can help ease the attacking workload off Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
He’s certainly got individual flair and an eye for goal, plus he’s an individual growing in confidence.
Ndombele has shown huge character to get back in the manager’s good books and the best may be yet to come from him.
