Jamie Carragher has told Super Sunday (broadcast on 14/8; 18:44) that Richarlison made a huge difference when he came on during Tottenham Hotspur’s draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

It was not quite the Battle of the Bridge part two, but it was certainly a fiery afternoon between the two sides. Both Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel were sent off after a clash after the full-time whistle.

Spurs did incredibly well to rescue a point. Harry Kane headed home with one of the final touches of the contest to earn Tottenham a draw. They had previously equalised through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Tottenham earning a point did not appear to be on the cards at half-time. Spurs were outplayed during the first-half and found themselves a goal behind.

Perhaps surprisingly, Conte resisted making changes at the break. But the contest kicked into life once Richarlison was brought on during the second-half.

The Brazilian was making his debut. And he made the most of the opportunity, working incredibly hard. Certainly, Carragher felt that Richarlison deserved a lot of credit as Tottenham fought their way back.

“I think Richarlison made a difference, he really did. They changed the system to a back four, two up front. And he just provided energy. In the first-half, it looked like Tottenham were playing in the sun, it was too hot. They couldn’t get around the pitch. There was just no energy, no spark,” he told Super Sunday.

“But I thought Richarlison made a huge difference in terms of just making those runs in behind and providing energy that Tottenham just didn’t seem to have.”

This is probably going to be the role Richarlison has for a little while. It is going to take something special for the former Everton man to break into that front three.

Conte will rotate at times. Tottenham are battling in four competitions this season. But Richarlison needs to make the most of those chances he gets.

He is certainly off to a very good start.
