Former Liverpool and England defender, Jamie Carragher, believes Manchester City defender Ruben Dias is proving the big difference this season in the title race.
City have put together a superb winning run to pull clear in the Premier League this term. Pep Guardiola has made his team more solid, with new signing Dias at the heart of that solidity alongside John Stones.

Dias was signed in the summer for over £60m. At the time, eyebrows were once again raised but Dias has become the mainstay in City’s defence and is arguably the first name on the teams-sheet now.
And Carragher, speaking to Sky yesterday, believes Dias is the player of the season so far in the entire league.
“I got back to that signing, Dias. I actually think at this moment I’d say Ruben Dias is the player of the season. I do believe he’s completely changed their situation,” Carragher said.
“He’s never injured. He plays every game. They haven’t got that free flowing stuff that we’ve seen in the last few years. Teams are going into games now though thinking we can’t score against City. They talk about the partnership with Stones who’s done well, but for me, I think Dias has been absolutely outstanding.”

Guardiola played with both Dias and Stones, alongside Aymeric Laporte this week. Once again showing the tactical versatility that both he and his squad of exceptional talent can bring to the table.
TBR View: Carragher is right, Dias impact has been huge
Carragher mentions this but the impact from Dias has been akin to that of Van Dijk at Liverpool. He’s been that good, and is rightly in the conversation for player of the year.
City almost look impossible to get past. Teams now know if they go one nil down, it’s almost game over. Few players can have that impact at a club and Dias is proving to be an expensive, but astute purchase by the club.
