Jamie Carragher says he absolutely ‘loves’ 24-year-old player who Arsenal want to sign

Jamie Carragher has suggested that he cannot say enough about how much he likes one striker Arsenal really want to sign this summer.

Monday proved to be a disappointing evening for Newcastle as they were beaten by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. But the Magpies scored two brilliant goals.

Jacob Murphy’s strike nearly burst the net. But the first-half equaliser from Alexander Isak should not be overlooked either. It was the 24-year-old’s 12th goal of the campaign in the Premier League. He has certainly been a shining light in what has been a much more difficult season for Eddie Howe’s side.

Isak’s overall record on Tyneside stands at 26 goals in 56 games in all competitions. And that return would be even more impressive were it not for injury.

Mikel Arteta has certainly taken note of his progress. Arsenal really want to sign Alexander Isak this summer as the Gunners look to land another striker.

And it would appear that Jamie Carragher would happily back Isak to play for anyone, as he reacted to his goal on Monday Night Football (broadcast on 11/3; 20:56).

“I never stop raving about this guy, I love him,” he said.

Asking price continues to increase

If Newcastle do have to sell players this summer, Isak’s future may perhaps have a small question mark over it. Of course, they would love to keep him for as long as possible. But it does seem that the Magpies may have to bring in funds to move the squad forward.

The problem for Arsenal is that Newcastle spent £63 million on Isak. And they would surely be only too happy to hold onto him beyond the summer. So any side who targets the Swede is surely going to have to offer Newcastle the chance to make a big profit.

And the asking price is probably only increasing with each moment of quality from the striker this season.
