Jamie Carragher believes that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has already had a big impact on centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The 60-year-old was appointed Toffees manager at the end of December and he’s now taken charge of three games.
Calvert-Lewin has played every minute so far under the high-profile Italian and has scored three goals too.
Ancelotti was keen to praise him after his two-goal heroics against Newcastle United in the last match of 2019, since then Everton started the year with a defeat to Manchester City.
“I think he (Calvert-Lewin) is going to be at the top in England and in Europe. He has all the qualities to be a top striker.” Ancelotti said at the end of December, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Carragher insists that comments from Ancelotti have already drastically changed the opinion of people on Calvert-Lewin.
He now has 10 goals in 23 goals across all competition this campaign, but most importantly looks like he’s going to play a key role moving forward as the first-choice striker.
“When Ancelotti says this [about Calvert-Lewin], people sit up, take notice and believe he knows what he is talking about. With one quote, the broader perception of Calvert-Lewin changes, even if his recent form has been excellent,” Carragher wrote in the Telegraph.
“This is the power of a CV. This is the authority of being a manager who has won everything and worked with some of the best strikers of the last 20 years. Ancelotti knows a top class player when he sees one, so his words are trusted in a way his predecessors were not.”

TBR’s View:
Carragher is spot on that Everton fans are going to put their full belief in Ancelotti, as he’s won 20 trophies as a manager in his career and worked with some of the best.
It will be a big boost to Calvert-Lewin himself that he’s in favour with the new man in charge and supporters are starting to believe in him too.
He’s still only a young player with his future ahead of him and it’s great to see him now starting regularly.
His all-round game has always looked decent with a strong aerial threat and great pace, but the finishing touch to him now is becoming more clinical in the final third.
