Jamie Carragher has given his verdict on the recent performances of Arsenal and Brazil international winger Gabriel Martinelli.

The former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit has a theory as to why Martinelli is struggling at the moment.

So, what has Jamie Carragher said about Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli? Well, let’s take a look.

Jamie Carragher not impressed with Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli

Well, Jamie Carragher has not been too impressed by the way that Gabriel Martinelli has been playing for Arsenal recently.

The former Liverpool star and Sky Sports pundit believes that among the front players of Arsenal, the £180,000-a-week (Spotrac) Brazil international winger is the one who is “really struggling” at the moment.

Carragher has noted that Martinelli, who starts on the left of a front-three for Arsenal, has not a consistent player behind him.

The pundit has pointed out the number of players that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has in the number 8 position this season.

Carragher said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:22 pm, January 1, 2024): “I keep mentioning Martinelli because of the front four, he is really struggling.

“They had Xhaka in that position last season, the fixed 8 on the left-hand side, Odegaard was to the right.

“This season, at times Trossard has played there, Declan Rice has played there, Havertz has played there. So, I don’t think that is helping Martinelli.”

My View: Gabriel Martinelli will get back to his best

In my opinion, Gabriel Martinelli will get back to his best for Arsenal. I believe that it is only a matter of time before the 22-year-old recaptures his old form.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that manager Mikel Arteta needs to involve Martinelli in build-up plays.

Martinelli himself needs to step up his game. The forward seems to be lacking confidence at the moment.

I believe that if the winger can do well in a couple of games in succession and scores a goal or gives an assist, then it will click for him.
