Jamie Carragher has claimed in his Sky Sports Team of the Season column that Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady can match Liverpool superstar Virgil van Dijk in terms of passing.
Carragher named seven Liverpool players in his Team of the Season so far, with nine league games to play – in the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.
Liverpool-born Coady, 27, has started and finished 46 league and cup matches this season – missing only two Wolves games this season, as he was rested in the Carabao Cup win over Reading and defeat to Aston Villa.
Coady came through the Liverpool academy and played 49 times for the club’s reserve side, as well as twice for the senior side before joining Wolves in the summer of 2015. Carragher reckons he is just as good at passing, as van Dijk.
“Conor Coady has also done brilliantly for Wolves; he has not missed a minute this season and is probably as good as anyone alongside Van Dijk in terms of passing from the back,” Carragher said.

TBR’s view – Coady is surely deserving of England chance
Especially with Gareth Southgate a fan of a three-man defence, and preferring to use ball-playing centre-backs instead of no-nonsence defenders. Coady fits the bill for the Three Lions, and it is a travesty he is yet to earn an England cap.
If Coady finishes the season and continues to shine for Wolves next season in both domestic and European competitions, then Coady deserves a call-up – and in with a shout of being picked for the Euro 2021 campaign.
