Jamie Carragher now tells Liverpool to appoint ‘very inexperienced’ manager after Jurgen Klopp leaves

Jamie Carragher has had his say on who should replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool once he leaves the club at the end of the season.

The German announced last week that he will be stepping down this summer. That will bring an end to his nine-year stay at Liverpool, and replacing him will be a very difficult task. Carragher has now urged his old side to appoint Xabi Alonso.

Xabi Alonso‘s name has been on everybody’s mind since Jurgen Klopp announced that he will be walking away from Liverpool.

The Spaniard, who spent five years as a Liverpool player back in the day, is now one of the most exciting young managers in world football.

The work he has done at Bayer Leverkusen – who are currently on top of the Bundesliga table – is nothing short of extraordinary, and it’s clear he has a bright future in management.

Numerous pundits have already backed Alonso for the Liverpool job. Jamie Carragher too wants his old teammate to replace Jurgen Klopp – even though he is ‘very inexperienced’ as a manager.

Carragher said on Stick to Football today: “I think it should be Xabi Alonso. A former teammate of mine.

“He is very inexperienced in management but what you would have straight away is the club on side. Not just because he’s a former Liverpool player but because of the respect he had as a player.

“What he has done at Bayer Leverkusen is pretty remarkable in that they were basically in the relegation zone when he came in. He almost qualified for the Champions League last year, he got to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League. This season they are top of the league.

“And you think of the managers he has been managed by Ancelotti, Benitez, Jose, Pep. And the football that they play. I just think he is the type of guy who if he came in he’d have the crowd up straight away.”

Xabi Alonso should be Liverpool’s first choice

Whoever comes in to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool will find it extremely difficult.

The German has done a remarkable job at Anfield over the years. He is the reason why Liverpool have been so good, and it’s highly unlikely that a new manager will come in and just hit the ground running.

Carragher is right, whichever manager comes in needs the fans’ support as things could go wrong in the first few months of his tenure next season.

Alonso will definitely be a huge hit among the supporters at Liverpool, which is why we think he should be the manager FSG should go after in the coming months.
