Jamie Carragher may well be delighted to hear the latest reports concerning Ezri Konsa, with The Athletic suggesting that the Aston Villa star is on Liverpool’s radar.
Konsa has been outstanding for the Villans this season. He has certainly played his part in helping Dean Smith’s men keep a superb defensive record during this campaign.
His performances prompted Carragher to tell Sky Sports (broadcast on 30/1) just a couple of weeks ago that he was a big admirer of the 23-year-old.
“I really feared for them last season because I thought they were going to go down really,” he told Sky Sports.
“When they came back at the end of last season, it was like a completely different team, a different type of organisation and a lot stronger defensively.
“I am a massive fan of Konsa at the back, alongside Mings, he gets a lot of the attention. But I think since he has come in, they have looked a lot more solid.”
He will surely be pleased to now hear that Jurgen Klopp seemingly has a similar view. The Athletic has suggested that the Reds are monitoring the £12 million centre-back.
It is claimed that Spurs are also looking at Konsa. Villa meanwhile, are hoping to extend his contract with his current terms set to expire in 2023.
It would be little surprise to see Liverpool bolster their defensive ranks in the summer. The Daily Mirror reported at the weekend that Torino ace Bremer is their number one target for the next window.
That report suggested that Bremer could cost less than £10 million. Obviously, there is no chance that Villa would consider anything like that sort of fee for Konsa.
But unlike the Brazilian, he has proved that he can impress in the Premier League. So it would be no surprise if Carragher gave any bid for the Villa man his backing.
