Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football (broadcast on Sky Sports; 30/11; 10:38) that he thinks that Jarrod Bowen has been a brilliant signing for West Ham United following their latest win.
Bowen proved to be the match winner on Monday. He glanced Said Benrahma’s cross past Emi Martinez to put the Hammers 2-1 up against Aston Villa.
Ultimately, it was enough to secure the three points. And Carragher suggested that he has been hugely impressed by the 23-year-old since his arrival at the London Stadium in January.
“Bowen, he’s been a brilliant signing,” he told Monday Night Football. “He’s just one of those players, he always nicks a goal. Every three or four games, you see him on the scoresheet.
“And again, he’s got a vital goal for them. He does really well on that right side, coming inside. He’s been a great signing for them.”
Bowen – who earns around £80,000-a-week, according to the Hull Daily Mail – does now lead West Ham’s scoring charts in the Premier League this term. His winner on Monday was his fourth in 10 starts for David Moyes’s men.
It is a scoring rate which looks a lot more like what he was managing at Hull City. And given he left the Tigers midway through the last campaign having scored 16 times, that could be a frightening thought for Hammers fans.
And as it was Benrahma who provided the assist, perhaps it would be fair to say that the goal was real vindication for the club’s decision to look at the Championship’s best for some of their marquee signings in recent times.
