'That player': Jamie Carragher says Arsenal have a 'world class' star in their ranks who can't be replaced

Jamie Carragher has been writing in his column for The Telegraph and insisted Gabriel Jesus is Arsenal’s world-class player right now.

The Gunners moved to sign Jesus in the summer. He completed a move worth around £45m and since then, his impact has been massive. Arsenal top the Premier League table, with the Brazilian widely considered one of the big catalysts for their upturn in fortunes.

And writing for The Telegraph, Carragher believes Arsenal cannot understate how much they’ll miss Jesus.

“From the moment Jesus made his debut at Crystal Palace, he was scoring and creating goals and the belief within Arsenal grew on and off the pitch, the supporters suddenly seeing a side they genuinely thought able to compete for the biggest prizes,” Carragher wrote.

“Jesus knitted Arteta’s tactical elements together, providing energy with his goal threat and enabling his midfield to thrillingly connect with his front line in a way that was impossible with the more static, and generally less consistent No9s he previously worked with. Arteta also told me how much of a leader Jesus is in the dressing room.

“Jesus has taken Arsenal to the next level. I have often argued that developing sides do not need four or five new faces to take them to the next level. Often it needs only one world-class player to take a club forward.Jesus is that player for Arsenal, so there is no point sugar-coating how much he will be missed.”

TBR’s View: Arsenal need to replace Jesus in January

Gabriel Jesus is, as Carragher says here, a world class operator. He brings quality to the Arsenal team that they missed last year and never thought they’d get this year.

Replacing him – somehow – will be vital in January. Whether that be with buying or loaning another number nine or by bringing in a different player to give Arteta a fresh option.

Jesus can’t get back fit quick enough as far as Arsenal are concerned. If they can ride the storm and remain in the top two before he comes back, then the title might well be in sight.
