Jamie Carragher is a fan, Steven Gerrard is targeting a top talent for Rangers

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is likely to go back to former club Liverpool again for loan players next season. After the success of Ryan Kent’s time at Ibrox that should come as no surprise.

As reported by Football Insider, Kent is one of three players the Liverpool legend wants in Glasgow next term. Ben Woodburn, linked previously, is another. The third name is Curtis Jones.

Rangers fans will know significantly less about the attacking midfielder than the other names on this list.

However, it appears Gerrard rates him highly. That is, according to Jamie Carragher. Back in September last year, during Sky Sports’ coverage of the League Cup tie between Liverpool and Chelsea (26/09/2018), Carragher told the Sky team what he, and Gerrard, thought of the player.

“He’s an attacking midfield player who, as soon as Steven Gerrard went down to the academy to manage, he was speaking to me about this player saying he has got a chance for the first-team…

“What he meant by that is that he (Jones) has a chance of dipping his toe in and it’s up to him, some people take to it, some people don’t. He’ll get opportunities under Jurgen Klopp as he is still very young. He’s got what I would call football arrogance when you see him play he’s got something about him, he stands out.”

That is some praise, especially considering the wealth of talent in the current Liverpool team.

Jones did eventually make his Liverpool debut this season, playing slightly out of position on the left-wing against Wolves in the FA Cup. But his best position is as an attacking central midfielder.

His recent form in the under-23 league is a testament to that. Back in his favourite position, the teenager has scored four and assisted two goals in his last three appearances.

If Rangers can bring him in on loan for next season then it sounds like he could make more of a Ryan Kent impact then an Ovie Ejaria one.

Rangers fans will certainly hope that proves to be the case.
